The Maasai Ostrich Farm was established in 1991 as a private house. Initially, 50 ostriches were acquired from a three-Point farm in Magadi, marking the start of ostrich farming in 1992.

Our Ostriches

Ostrich production is the raising of ostriches for their meat, eggs, feathers, and leather. Ostriches are the world's largest birds and can be a profitable and sustainable source of protein. Ostrich live span is approximately 30-35 years in the wild but tamed ones can live upto 45 years.

Ostrich feathers

The feathers of the Masai ostrich lack barbs, which gives them a soft, downy appearance. Similar to other ostrich subspecies.

Ostrich Leather

Ostrich hides are distinctive and have a high yield potential, with a single ostrich producing up to 7-8 square meters of leather.

Ostrich Eggs

A female ostrich starts to lay eggs from 2 years to around 30 years, a female can lay an average of 40-70 eggs per year and 1 egg in 48 hours.

Maasai ostrich farm is located 45kms from Nairobi, on the athi river/Kitengela plains off Namanga road. It is strategically located thirty minutes’ drive from Jomo Kenyatta international airport, Nairobi and a two hour drive from the Tanzania border.

Maasai ostrich farm begun in 1991 as a private house. Fifty birds were bought from three-point farm in magadi and ostrich farming was in introduced in 1992.

The facility is an ostrich rearing farm, with the main product being ostrich meat, constituting about 95%of revenue. Other products and services are tours around the farm, ostrich egg shells, feathers and ostrich oil.
